- Summary:
- Bound volume of notes taken by Ernst von Leutsch at Karl Otfried Müller's lectures on Greek antiquities in the winter semester 1828-1829, at the University of Göttingen. The introductory portion includes an overview of the organization of the lectures (p. 10-12), showing a division of the discussion into five main parts, examining the Greek state in its various aspects. The first part, which comprises more than half of the volume, pertains to the description of the Greek citizenry through five historical periods up to the conquest by the Romans. The remaining parts cover the state as regulator of social life; the state's influence with respect to the society's relationship with nature, in its economic life; the state and human society with respect to cultural or spiritual life, including art, religion, and science; and the state in relationship to other states, including adversarial relations. In the last section the text includes some line drawings and diagrams (p. 441 on), under headings pertaining to the military and ships.
