- Summary:
- At about twelve-fifteen in the morning, California time, June 5, 1968, in Los Angeles's Ambassador Hotel, Robert Kennedy thanked his supporters for his win in the California Democratic primary for the presidency. As he was leaving the hotel through the kitchen, three of the eight bullets fired by a crazed gunman struck Kennedy, one in the head. This is the tape of the on-the-scene reporting, with added commentary from ABC News staff, delivered in morning drivetime, probably after six A.M. Eastern time, and certainly before Kennedy eventually succumbed to the wounds.
- Participant:
- Introduction, Charles Gibson; Frank Reynolds (New York anchor); Bill Lawrence, Howard K. Smith (political reporters); Sam Donaldson (Washington correspondent); Bob Clark (reporting from the scene in Los Angeles); William Weisel (ABC employee wounded in the attack, reporting from the scene in Los Angeles).
