- Summary:
- For housing scholars and practitioners, Silverman and Patterson (urban and regional planning and social work, U. of Buffalo) assemble 13 essays that examine the trends, outcomes, and future directions of fair and affordable housing policy in the US. After an introduction in which the editors provide a history and explanation of policies, contributors working in political science, public policy, urban planning, sociology, social work, and other fields in the US address a wide range of topics: fair housing policy and the perception of its implementation, including discussion of fair housing assistance program (FHAP) outcomes over a 25-year period, how the federal courts have interpreted policy, and the attitudes of black real estate professionals; affordable housing finance and land use issues, including the low-income housing tax credit program (LIHTC) and inclusionary policy; rent vouchers as a tool to address concentrated poverty in inner-city neighborhoods; and the promotion of universal homeownership, with discussion of the relationship between racial segregation and subprime lending.
