- Summary:
- Bound volume of notes taken by Ernst von Leutsch at Karl Otfried Müller's lectures on archaeology and art history of the ancient world, in the summer semester 1828, at the University of Göttingen. A few pages of notes at the back of the volume (p. 437-440) are provided with a separate title page referring to a similar course (Einleitung zu der Archäologie und Geschichte der Kunst bei den Alten), dated summer semester 1829. After a theoretical discussion of types of art works, and concepts in the study of art (p. 3-25), the lectures proceed to a chronologically organized overview of the history of Greek art (p. 25) and of Roman art (p. 175), followed by a final major section on the archaeology of classical art (Zweiter Hauptheil: systematischer Theil: Archäologie der classischen Kunst; p. 268). The second set of notes at the back entirely concern the theory of art (theoretische Einleitung). The manuscript is illustrated with numerous line drawings and diagrams of forms.
