Stemming from the author's dissertation at Humboldt U., Berlin, Germany, this fine reference is the first of two volumes (the second volume contains a catalog of the inscriptions). The glossary in this volume contains the words appearing on 173 stone inscriptions from the Lanna kingdom in 12th- and 13th-century northern Thailand, including all the variations of each word. The material consists of nearly 5000 lexical entries, with gloss in modern Thai, English translation for the lead word (followed by all its variations), and indication of the number and provinces of the occurrence of the word. The reference will be essential for linguists and historians. Price is converted from euros. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
