- Summary:
- Long before US politicians began telegraphing their intention to run for president by releasing an autobiography, the genre of the political autobiography was in full flourish. They differ from philosophical or religious autobiographies--epitomized by Augustine--by connecting the writer immediately to social and political events. Contributors identified only by name explore such topics as classical Greece, autobiography and political struggles in the Hellenistic age, autobiographies and memoirs in the age of the Roman civil wars, the Augustan age, the early empire, and the second and third centuries. Only ancient names are indexed. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
