- Summary:
- For those in dentistry and from a multidisciplinary perspective that involves surgeons, oncologists, and prosthodontists, Beumer (advanced prosthodontics, biomaterials, and hospital dentistry, U. of California, Los Angeles) et al. describe the rehabilitation of patients with disabilities of the head and neck secondary to cancer-related, acquired, and congenital defects. They bring together a group of these professionals and other specialists from North America, Europe, China, and New Zealand for 10 chapters on rehabilitation of tongue, mandible, maxilla, soft palate, face, cleft lip and palate, and other craniofacial anomalies, and oral management of chemotherapy patients. For this edition, the chapters on trauma, cranial implants, and miscellaneous prostheses have been deleted, although some sections have been integrated into other chapters. Chapters on digital technology and tissue engineering are new, and the part on psychosocial perspectives on the care of cancer patients has been condensed into one chapter. Chapters on prosthetic restoration have been revised, and a new section on the use of implants in growing children has been added. The chapter on the oral management of patients treated with radiation therapy or chemoradiation has been rewritten. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
