- Summary:
- A mechanical engineer now working for a New Zealand research company, Banerjee has expanded the lecture notes for a course he taught at the University of Utah into a textbook. It is for beginning graduate and advanced undergraduate students who have a background in elementary calculus and differential equations, linear algebra, complex analysis, and vector and tensor analysis. He shies away from the coordinate system and components of vectors and tensors whenever possible, and uses the Einstein summation convention extensively. His topics are elastodynamics, acoustics, and electrodynamics; plane waves and interfaces; sources and scattering; electrodynamic metamaterials; acoustic and elastodynamic metamaterials; transformation-based methods and cloaking; waves in periodic media; and waves in layered media.
