Biography/History:
Winifred Mary Chatterley is one of three children born in 1887 to George and Annie Chatterley in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England. Winifred's siblings include a sister, Constance, born in 1884, and a brother, Leslie George, born in 1901.
Summary:
Autograph album belonging to Winifred Mary Chatterley, with a handwritten title page that reads: "Autographs, Winifred M. Chatterley, Eastwood, Notts/. 1901." The album contains the autographs of various friends and family members, spanning from 1901 to 1908, when Winifred was ages fourteen to nineteen. Thirty-six leaves are filled with poems, quotations, and drawings. Preceding most signatures are poems or quotations from well-known authors, such as George Eliot, Robert Browning, and Lord Alfred Tennyson. Some of the autographs are preceded by original drawings. Six leaves of pen-and-ink drawings depict types of bank customers with written descriptions. The volume is bound in black leather with "Writing Album" embossed on the front cover.
