Summary:
Founded in 1971, the Ligue des Bibliotheques Europeennes de Recherche, or LIBER, has become the principle association of research libraries in Europe. This volume is a history of the association, covering from the founding to 2009, penned by Finnish librarian and scholar Hakli, a former president of LIBER. The focus is on the association's programs, activities, and institutional development, and includes discussion of relations with the Council of Europe and of the impact of digital technology.
