- "This is not a history of architecture; it is a consideration of the way architecture has been studied historically. The first part is closely based upon the inaugural series of Bossom Lectures which I was invited to deliver at the Royal Society of Arts in 1968 and I am grateful for permission to use this material....The second part is a considerable extension of the closing section of the Bossom Lectures and I am indebted to those whose took part in the discussion following the lectures, particularly Mr R. J. Mainstone and Mr S. E. Rigold. I have also had the privilege of discussing with Mr John Gloag his forthcoming book The Architectural Interpretation of History, and I am grateful for the skillful and sympathetic editorial collaboration of Miss Celia Phillips." -- Provided by publisher.
