- Summary:
- Editor Jullien (French and comparative literature, U. of California, Santa Barbara) presents this study examining the concept of foundational texts in world literature. The concept was originally introduced by Geothe's notion of weltliteratur, which refers to canonical texts which transcend nationality and exemplify a general human experience. Contributors examine such foundational texts as Homer's Odyssey, Murakami's Genji, Dante's Commedia, and many others, illustrating these works' transference and integration into other countries and cultures. This book is intended for those studying literature. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
