- Summary:
- Frank (comparative literature, U. of Southern Denmark) sees an intellectual affinity between novelist Salman Rushdie and philosopher Gilles Deleuze in world-view, art, and subjectivity and therefore finds Deleuze to offer a valuable conceptual apparatus for reading the poetics and aesthetics of Rushdie's writings. He presents a description of Deleuze's literary theory, focusing on the concepts of simulacrum and rhizome, and conducts readings of Rushdie's novels Grimus, Midnight's Children, Shame, The Satanic Verses, and The Ground Beneath Her Feet based on the Deleuzian theory.
