- Summary:
- Contributors to this book include clinicians, advocates, and family members of patients, offering perspectives on palliative and end-of-life care for infants, children, and adolescents. Part 1 addresses societal and institutional issues such as epidemiology and educational initiatives. Part 2 considers the cycle of care, with chapters on decision making, communication skills, psychosocial needs of the child and family, bereavement, and caregiver suffering. Part 3 is devoted to palliative care in special environments, such as pediatric intensive care, home, and school, and for specific patient populations such as patients with HIV, genetic conditions, and cancer. This second edition adds new chapters on recent advocacy initiatives and spiritual dimensions of care. The book is for physicians, specialists, home care and hospice personnel, counselors, and families. Carter teaches in the Division of Neonatology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
