- Summary:
- Independent history scholar Hughes has been researching and composing the history of Georgian houses in Dublin over the past five years. The project began when he was separately asked to examine three houses in Fitzwilliam Square in quick succession. The history of inhabitants of just those three houses revealed such a diverse ensemble on distinguished individuals the author was intrigued to investigate the remaining 66 houses of Fitzwilliam Square. Based on the residents' own correspondence and memoirs, and contemporary accounts in chronicles and journals, the text examines the variety of individuals living at Fitzwilliam Square in the19th and early 20th centuries, and their contributions to Dublin's political, legal, and cultural spheres. The volume is illustrated with b&w and color photographs and diagrams. Distributed by Dufour. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
