Summary:
German political scientist Hawkins has lived in Colombia for several years studying labor-related issues, urban violence, and forms of government. He examines the contours and contradictions of the conflict over whether the central public places of the city recovering from years of drug violence should be reserved for the wealthy or allow poor people to ply meager subsistence trades as well. Among his topics are his theoretical framework, class bias in the urban development of Medellin, street vending and its governance within the informal sector debate, the tutelage action of rights, and the grand vendor survey.
