Summary:
This work studies the prestige business schools of North America during the period 1945-70 to reveal the changes that altered the character of business schools, the terms of discourse about them, and transformation of the position of business schools in the academic community. Special attention is paid to the role of the Flexner Report of 1910, which critiqued of medical schools; the development of the University of Chicago creed under Robert Maynard Hutchins; and the creation of the RAND Corporation in 1948 and its role in shaping the directions and leaders of the reform of business schools. The book also examines the roles of the Ford Foundation and the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. Augier is a social science research associate at Stanford University. March is professor emeritus at Stanford University. Stanford Business Books is an imprint of Stanford University Press.
