Summary:
Gil & Moti are a team of artists who have lived and worked together since 1994. Their decision to regard life as a perpetual performance, and art as a life form, influences all areas of their oeuvre: painting, drawing, installation, video, and photography. Using their art, they appropriate public space and investigate its influence on interpersonal relationships. In analyzing the relationships between private and public life, they refer to current debates on otherness and the rules of coexistence, questioning our attitude toward national, religious, gender, and social identity in playful ways. Six of their most important projects from the last decade relate stories situated in the field of tension between reality and fantasy in images that range from the profane to highly artificial. Born Jewish Israelis, Gil & Moti now live in the Netherlands.
