- Summary:
- This dance is performed in Seraikella, which is situated in Singhbhum district of Bihar. The technique of Seraikella Chhau performance is based on an evolved and developed system of exercises known as the Parikhanda, which are performed by martial groups early in the morning. The whole movement technique emerges from the style of the sword and shield play (parikhanda). In Seraikella Chhau, the music is essentially a background music and no words are spoken. The musical instruments used are dhol, dhumsa, nagaara, madhuri, which is a type of shehnai. Clay masks are used by the performers. The repertoire of Seraikella Chhau is based on Indian myths and legends.
