- drawn from papers delivered at the twelfth Kyoto University International Symposium Transforming Racial Images: Analyses of Representations held in December 2008 and a subsequent joint research project, this volume examines the cultural and sociological generation of racial identity in an Asian context. Essays discuss such topics as ethnic characterizations and colonial rule in Korea, racial representations and historical amnesia in the U.S. and Japan, Jamaican popular culture in Japan and molecular genetics and shifting taxonomies of race. The volume includes numerous black and white photographs and figures as well as several color plates.
