Summary:

This translation of the original Irish language autobiography of Colm O Gaora, an early twentieth century Irish nationalist activist, provides English speaking readers with access to this important first person account of the organizational efforts before, during, and after the Easter Rising of 1916 and the eventual establishment of an independent twenty-six county Ireland. O Gaora was an associate of many key figures in the Irish language and political revival including Padraig Pearse and Roger Casement, and his memoir highlights the role, often underestimated, of the rural west of Ireland in the nationalist movement. The volume includes an introduction and relevant notes for clarification of Irish language terms and colloquialisms by O hAodha, a professor of history at the University of Limerick.
