- By "Ambrosiaster" is understood the author of a series of commentaries on 13 epistles of St. Paul, based on pre-Hieronymian version, and falsely ascribed to Ambrosius, bishop of Milan. A. Souter in his A study of Ambrosiaster ascribes the authorship of commentaries to Hilarius. By other authorities it has been ascribed to Isaac, a converted Jew of the 4th century.
