Summary:
In this translated work, Cruz (contemporary philosophy, U. of Barcelona, Spain) conducts what Italian philosopher Vattimo, in the foreword, calls an excellent example of an "ontology of the present," by which he means that, having rejected, in the Heideggerian sense, metaphysics, that is the study of being, now that being has been radically destabilized temporally and situationally, philosophy can only seek to understand the meaning of being at the present moment. Thus, Cruz reflects on the concepts of "responsibility" and "personal identity" for the present moment of being, while travelling across a wide range of connected subjects of the philosophy of the last two centuries in a sweeping manner that may prove difficult to the uninitiated reader.
