Summary:
Over the last decade, the BBC World Service Trust has been involved in projects intended to link the power of drama to development goals. This work, edited by Skuse (anthropology, U. of Adelaide, Australia), Gillespie (sociology, The Open U., UK), and Power (managing director of InterMedia, a media research and consulting firm based in the UK) investigates, from creation to conception, the drama for development work of the BBC WST and their partners. Drawing from the anthropology of development, the anthropology of media, post-colonial studies, cultural studies, and media research, contributors critically assess practices of cultural translation involved in the television and radio productions of the BBC WST in Africa and Asia and consider their implications for entertainment-education theory and practice.
