Abandoned in 1908, the Manchester Botanic Garden had stood for nearly eighty years as one of the premier horticultural sites in the United Kingdom and was an example of a unique sort of subscription garden, kept up by the wealth of Manchester Society members and available for their enjoyment and curiosity. This volume examines the history of the garden and the society and provides an in-depth look at this unique feature of Victorian Manchester. Numerous illustrations and photographs of garden relics as, well as maps and horticultural drawings, are included. Brooks is an author and expert on Victorian gardens.
