- Summary:
- The nine essays of this volume contain in-depth analysis of works by women writers, with a focus on their treatment of women, gender, and the use of myth in rewriting traditional gender roles and stories. Among the works considered are Patricia Chao's The Monkey King, Marie Darrieussecq's Truismes, Margaret Atwood's The Penelopiad, and Eugenia Fakinou's The Seventh Garment. Two of the essays consider screenwriting and Indian cinema. The volume concludes with an original work, by Marina Warner, based on a sculpture of Lot's wife by Kiki Smith and the 2003 American invasion of Iraq.
