Summary:
Several hands appear in the tooled, leather-bound volume, which is probably from Surrey, England (Alastor). The commonplace book contains copied poems, prose, cut-out printed illustrations, and drawings, ranging in date from 1838 to 1846. Drawings are chiefly landscapes in pencil with several signed "J. R." There are three butterfly drawings in colored-pencil, signed "J. R." and dated 1838. Most poems are initialed and dated; some are unattributed; and a few poems are attributed to Lord Byron and H. Robinson. Some pages have embossed filigreed borders with poems or drawings inside. End paper signed "Harriet Lickfold, December 10, 1864."
