From no. 45 (Nov. 26, 1737) and maybe earlier, "(Printed for J. Purser in White-Fryars.)" appeared below the date line; perhaps originally intended to distinguish from the rival paper, 'Old common sense'.

Another serial with same title and parallel dates and numbers was begun in November 1737, as a rival to this publication. Issue no. 43 of this newspaper contains a note on the "pyracy", at which point the competing paper changed its title to read: The Old common sense: or, The Englishman's journal. Cf. NCBEL.
