Upper board has central panel with figures of Faith (holding crucifix and chalice with host) and Hope (hands clasped in prayer, looking at small figure of God in clouds above) seated face to face within an oval frame with motto: IMPETRAT IMA FIDES CHRISTO QVAM DANTE SATEM EX SPES ANIMOSA SOLET (i.e. Impetrat alma fides Christo quam Dante salutem expectare soror spes animosa solet.), the whole in a rectangular frame with figures of the 4 cardinal virtues at corners, each with banner: IVSTI (Justitia), PRV (Prudentia), TEMP (Temperantia), and FORT (Fortitudo). Lower board has central panel with illustration of Jacob's ladder (Genesis 28:10-21): in the foreground, Jacob dreams beneath a tree in the wilderness; above him, 2 winged angels climb the ladder toward the robed half-figure of God in the clouds; in the background is a city and another small figure of Jacob pouring oil on a square stone altar marked "H B". Three raised bands on spine; blind-tooled spine panels with evidence of ms. in panel at head of spine. Two leather and metal clasps with metal catchplates. All edges blue.
