Summary:
Cairns (French, Dearborn U.) discusses the work of 45 texts--not all of which she claims are aesthetically great; but she does claim that some of them are great and that their authors have suffered a "double exclusion" for being women and for being Jewish. She examines the reasons (French confusion of Judaism and Israeli politics, for example) and discusses 30 authors from 1945 to the present who have written in response to the great traumas of the 20th century. This book is published by Legenda, an imprint of Modern Humanities Research Association and Maney Publishing; it is distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co.
