- Summary:
- In American politics, Ohio is a "battleground state"-- it's a highly competitive and bellwether state, particularly when compared to other large states and especially in presidential elections. Coffey, Green, Cohen, and Brooks (politics, U. of Akron) analyze the main factors contributing to these patterns in the Buckeye State. These include the division of the state into five diverse regions, which resemble the regions of the country in demographic terms; its demographic diversity, including socioeconomic class, race, religion, gender, and age; the political attitudes related to region and demography, including partisanship, political priorities, and issue positions; and how major political parties and their candidates deploy resources across the state to contact and mobilize voters. The authors also examine the relative importance of these factors in the 2004 and 2008 presidential votes in the Buckeye State. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
