- Pathologist Jacques Wallach having departed for that big laboratory in the sky in August 2010 at age 84, a new team of scientists from the University of Massachusetts-Worcester has revised the 2007 ninth edition of the venerable reference for physicians. Their most obvious change was to divide the book into two sections. The first lists laboratory tests alphabetically, and the second is devoted to disease states. The book offers no references to pathophysiology or therapy, but addresses common pitfalls and limitations of testing and identifying appropriate tests for specific clinical presentations.
