- Summary:
- The 20 essays of this proceedings were first presented at the Ninth Workshop of the International Network Impact of Empire, held at Durham U. in April 2009. Expanding the idea of frontier, the papers consider the interaction between different religions, different peoples, the lives of those living near the Roman frontier, and other physical and societal frontiers. Topics include the practice of Hospitium on the Roman frontier, Catholics and Donatists in North Africa, a Gabinian law reducing senatorial control over provincial governors, possible causes of the revolt of 69-70, trade and taxation in Egypt, and a context for Hadrian's Wall. Three of the essays are in French, two are in German, the balance are in English. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
