- Summary:
- Recognizing a dearth of critical scholarship addressing education and globalization/development in Africa and Asia; a need for cross-regional research that can lead to the identification of similar trends and tendencies in both regions as well as differences and specificities of regions, cultures, colonial histories, and micro-settings; and a need to address multiple spaces and types of education and learning, Kapoor (U. of Alberta, Canada) has gathered here 12 Asia- and Africa-specific studies of neoliberal globalization and development in education that seek to identify colonial/imperial vectors; explore internal trajectories that compound or co-exist with such vectors (e.g. religious fundamentalism in India or authoritarianism in Zimbabwe); examine responses and resistances in the form of activism, policy, and different educational projects to colonial and imperial neoliberal education; and analyze the role of education/learning in shaping counter-hegemonic projects.
