Summary:
I promise to love you" is the title of the neon sculpture created by British artist Tracey Emin: a burning, wallmounted heart inscribed with a declaration of love. Art collector Joop van Caldenborgh shows that same dedication, inspiration, but also conviction in his love for art. What is important is one's relationship with a particular piece of art; the fascination, emotion or bewilderment that the works provokes. Collecting means looking for that one hidden gem that will touch your heart; you can feel it straight away, like love at first sight. Under Van Caldenborgh's supervision and through the distinctive choices that he has made, the Caldic Collection has grown to become a substantial art collection comprising a highly diverse range of works, periods, styles and disciplines. This book shows a seleciton from the works that have been purchased since 2000 and focuses on the collection's individual gems and visual relationships.
