Summary:
Concentration camps-from the start they served a simple purpose for the Nazi rulers. From early in 1933, all dissidents and opponents of the regime were interned there-Communists, Social Democrats, Jehovah Witnesses, clergymen, the politically undesirable, Jews, Gypsies, and homosexuals. The plan for "the final solution of the Jewish question" was put into practice with deadly precision. From mid 1943, it was possible to kill from 5,000 to 8,000 people per day in Auschwitz's fifteen incinerators.
