Summary:
The eighth edition is cited in Brandon-Hill as Ackerman's Surgical Pathology; the title is absent from MLA's Master Guide. Two hefty volumes house the 10th edition of this classic work, which was first published in 1953. It's truly an evolved and evolving reference that has kept abreast with new developments over the decades. Substantial updating was necessary for this latest edition in order to integrate and incorporate the enormous amount of new knowledge derived from the molecular genetic revolution, as well as increased standardization and regulatory controls, and pervasive use of electronic information systems. Rosai (Centro Diagnostico Italiano, Italy; Weill Cornell Medical College, US) held fast to the goals of coherence and practicality in order to shape this reference in accordance with the vision of its originator, Lauren V. Ackerman (1905-1993). Eight contributors are identified--a very small number given the work's depth and breadth. Online access to the contents (included with purchase) will save readers the considerable physical effort of handling the ink & paper version.
