Summary:
This small volume provides a catalog of translations made by the famed nineteenth century Celtic scholar Whitley Stokes that were discovered untouched and undocumented after more than a century in a storeroom at university library in Germany. Stokes was the most prolific writer on, and is considered the father of, Celtic language philology, producing nearly four hundred works on the subject. This volume provides a professional catalog of all of the translations that Stokes made in the course of his research for those writings. Also included in the work is a complete bibliography of Stokes published works as well as several appendices detailing examples of Stokes' translations. The volume is compiled and introduced by OCroinin, a professor of history at the national University of Ireland, Galway. Distributed in the U.S. by ISBS.
