Biography/History:

Born Elizabeth Ann Clarke, one of four daughters, to lawyer Edward Clarke in Cheshunt, England. On 17 November 1823 Elizabeth married legal reformer Henry Bellenden Ker (1785?-1871) in Middlesex, England. After retiring from his legal career, Henry and Elizabeth Bellenden Ker lived in Cannes, France with Elizabeth's sister, Harriet Ludlow Clarke (d. 1866), a wood-engraver and stained-glass artist.

Summary:

Oblong red-leather sketchbook containing drawings, chiefly in pencil with some in ink with notes in pencil, of Elizabeth Bellenden Ker's travels through the northern parts of Italy, including Trieste, Turin, and Lake Como, and Switzerland, including Bellizona, Morbegno, and the surrounding region. The sketches include mountainous landscapes, towns and villages, and lakes with surrounding scenery. Some sketches are laid in, but most drawings are pasted in the volume.
