- Summary:
- There have been many studies of the part Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty, and other Western broadcasters played in US national security strategy during the Cold War, but few on how they impacted the targets of the broadcasts in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. This volume combines accounts by radio veterans and scholars who have conducted research on the subject in Soviet bloc archives and Western records, with a selection of translated documents from formerly secret Soviet and East European archives. The 17 essays cover goals of the broadcasts, jamming and audiences, and the impact of Western broadcasts in Eastern Europe and the USSR. The 51 documents illuminate regime perceptions of Western broadcasts and measures taken against them ranging from 1953 to 1989. Distributed in the US by Books International.
