- Summary:
- First published in Latin in 1584, Justus Lipius' Concerning Constancy was a philosophical dialogue that according to translator Young (English, North Carolina State U.) is--after Thomas More's Utopia and the Praise of Folly by Erasmus--"arguably the most significant, influential, and characteristic work of northern [European] humanism." The dialogue promotes a Senecan stoicism in response to a political world of warfare and oppression. This volume represents the first English translation and new edition of the work since the 17th century (according to the publisher). ACMRS is the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
