This edition can be regraded as "the culmination of censorship in reverse" and a "valuable example of how Platina was read and used by a moderate Reformer in the mid-sixteenth century". Cf. Stefan Bauer. Censorship and Fortuna of Platina's Lives of the Popes in the Sixteenth Century.
Title enclosed within elaborate woodcut border made up of four panels: Emperor and Pope standing to the left and right of the title: upper panel with Christ, surrounded by the electors on one side, and depiction of baptism and Last Supper on the other; bottom panel with large coat-of-arms of the Pfalzgraf bei Rhein (Otto Heinrich, Elector of the Palatinate).

Culture Class Collection copy has stamp with initials "C v K", possibly belonging to Friederich August de Knobelsdorff on verso of title page.
