Summary:
This is a book of b&w photos and text by an Englishman who spent most of his 36-year career as a soldier and diplomat in the Middle East and has spent years since his retirement studying Islam, leading exhibitions, and writing histories. He enjoyed a long friendship with Dame Freya Stark (1893-1993)--inveterate traveler, photographer, and author--and the two traveled together to north Yemen in the mid-1970s, when she was 83. The country is currently in upheaval, making this documentation of people and places particularly poignant. Distribution in North America is by the David Brown Book Co.
