- Summary:
- Vernon (English, Hendrix College) provides a scholarly account of Ernest Hemingway's news coverage of the messy, brutal Spanish Civil War of 1937-1939. During the course of his work reporting on the war, Hemingway made four trips to cover it. The author also addresses The Spanish Earth, a pro-Republican documentary film of the war for which Hemingway worked as screenwriter and narrator. Both accessible and extensive, the book will interest students and others interested in film, literature, European history and journalism.
