- Summary:
- This book reports on the eXtensible Catalog (XC) project begun at the University of Rochester's River Campus Libraries. XC is a set of open-source applications developed at the University of Rochester, designed to provide patron access to resources across a range of databases, metadata schemas, and standards. For the project, site-based teams conducted 80 workplace interviews at four universities--Cornell, Ohio State, Yale, and the University of Rochester--yielding new knowledge about the research processes of students and faculty members, mainly in the humanities and social sciences but also in scientific fields. Contributors argue for the value of developing services, spaces, and tools in collaboration with the people who will actually use them. The research sheds light on how faculty members use journal literature, archives, and special collections, and the personal management of scholarly information. There is no subject index. Foster directs anthropological research for the University of Rochester's River Campus Libraries. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
