- Summary:
- Collection of documents, mostly legal and notarial, pertaining to a lawsuit brought by Carlo de' Medici and Bastiano del Pace against Giovanbattista Bettini. The dispute started in 1535 because of a disagreement over a large sale of textile and silk products. The same year, after a failed attempt to resolve the matter informally, the parties went to the administrative court (referred to as Tribunale di Prima Istanza). The case involved a lengthly litigation phase, documented in detail in the manuscript, and was concluded in 1552, when Medici and del Pace agreed to settle with Bettini. Due to the proportions of the suit, and to the active role that the parties had in the Florentine textile trade, the Arte della Lana, the guild of wool workers, was also involved. A large number of local merchants and workers were examined and their depositions are scattered throughout the filza. A few accounts for the debts and credits related to the lawsuits are also present.
