Summary:
A historian of Canada and Atlantic Canada, Slumkoski explores regionalism in the far east of Canada through the lens of reaction by the Maritime provinces--Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island--to Newfoundland's entry into the Canadian Confederation in 1949 and the creation of Atlantic Canada from those provinces along with Labrador. His topics include Newfoundland-Maritime connections from colonization to confederation, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland's entry into confederation, and regional union and Newfoundland during the 1940s. The study began as his doctoral dissertation at the University of New Brunswick. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
