- Summary:
- This study examined long-term caregiving situations for dependent elderly relatives in which the caregiver resided with the care recipient. The relationship among type of caregiving (dyad and system), caregiver and care recipient characteristics, and caregiver burden were analyzed. This study was a secondary analysis of a cross-sectional data set comprised of 430 subjects who participated in a family caregiver support program. Type of caregiving was related to the relationship between the caregiver and care recipient, the marital status of the caregiver and caregiver instrumental activity of daily living needs. The care recipient's physical and mental limitations were not related to type of caregiving. Type of caregiving was related to level of caregiver burden.
