Summary:
At the heart of this study are oral testimonies from 30 trade union activists in the UK. Moore (Working Lives Research Institute, London Metropolitan U., UK) interviewed these activists in order to understand what has motivated them to participate in what could be termed "class struggle" but is rarely identified as such by the participants. The oral material is interwoven with analysis in chapters on identity and consciousness, the dynamics of workplace activism, collective mobilization, the contested role of the ULR, migrant worker activists, and ideological dimensions.
