- Summary:
- Mapin's blank notebooks are covered with the famous Indian block print fabrics.
- The oldest-known patterned fabrics are resist-dyed printed cottons from Gujarat and Rajasthan. The fragments were first identified by the famous scholar Pfister as coming from Gujarat in the 17th century. Over several centuries the tradition of handblock printing with wood and metal blocks has continued in Gujarat, Rajasthan and some other parts of India. Pethapur in Gujarat remains famous for its block printing.
- Many of these assorted designs are hand-printed with vegetable dyes. Variations in colors are inherent in dyeing techniques.
